Hamburg Clusters Join Forces in the Unique KLIMAready Project
Joining forces for the future: for the first time, seven established Hamburg industry clusters are pooling their expertise to support companies with climate neutrality, the energy transition and climate-related challenges.
Joining forces for the future
The 1.5-degree target, climate neutrality and sustainable processes at every level: what the world – and therefore the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg – has set out to achieve is a major task. It is far too large and complex for any single sector to tackle alone. That is why, for the first time in Hamburg’s cluster history, seven established and high-performing clusters are joining forces to make this goal achievable across sectors.
It is already clear that many things will need to change in order to meet political and legal sustainability requirements. Missing these targets brings not only the risk of financial penalties, but also reputational risks. Innovative solutions and collaboration are not merely nice to have – they are crucial to the long-term success and resilience of entire industries. For this reason, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supports the Hamburg-based KLIMAready project.

Three years of ambitious goals
KLIMAready will run until mid-2027. During this period, the consortium will actively support Hamburg organisations with their energy transition and the management of climate-related challenges. The project begins with an assessment of the current situation, including a cross-sector survey. Based on these findings, ideas for concrete measures will be developed.
Agile methods will help address the complexity of the issues involved. During the development of measures, key areas for action will be identified, relevant stakeholders connected, and ideas developed and evaluated using structured methods. The findings from this process will be documented so that they can be used over the long term.
The most promising ideas will be implemented in an iterative process alongside further idea development, allowing lessons learned to feed directly into the next phase of the project. Continuous communication and public relations throughout the project will ensure visibility for its content and enable interested stakeholders from Hamburg’s cluster landscape, business, academia, politics and society to become part of KLIMAready.
Making regulation and framework conditions transparent
In addition to this interplay between needs assessment, development and implementation of measures, the project will systematically prepare and provide information on regulation and framework conditions. This also includes an overview of potential funding opportunities as a transparent basis for decisions during the development of measures.

In addition to project activities that directly address Hamburg organisations, another core aspect is the long-term development and safeguarding of expertise within the clusters on climate neutrality and on new agile methods for initiating and managing complex projects.
