Educational equity in focus

Educational equity is one of the key societal challenges of our time. Social background continues to have a major influence on educational opportunities in Germany and, with them, the future prospects of young people. That was exactly the focus of the “WoMen on Top” event hosted by Franca Lehfeldt and Nena Brockhaus, which was also attended by Aynur Colpan, Managing Director of FCH Finance City Hamburg GmbH.

At the heart of the evening was not only the question of where action is needed, but above all which concrete solutions business and society can contribute. Financial education also played an important role. A basic understanding of finance and economic relationships provides orientation, strengthens independence and can make an important contribution to greater equality of opportunity.

School Meets Finance

This is precisely where Finance City Hamburg’s “School Meets Finance” programme comes in. Volunteer experts from Hamburg’s financial sector visit schools and provide young people with practical financial and economic knowledge, regardless of their background and their individual starting conditions.

“Fair opportunities at the start also mean equipping young people with the tools they need to lead self-determined lives. For us, financial education is therefore an important building block for greater equality of opportunity.”
